What Types Of Pumps Are There?

Pumps come in many different shapes and sizes. They are also made from different materials and have different modes of power. However, pumps can be placed into one of two broad categories, submersible and non-submersible. A submersible pump has to be submerged inside of the fluid that it is pumping. Sewage ejection pumps, transfer/pony pumps and sump pumps are examples of pumps that can be classified as submersible pumps.

Non-submersible pumps are also known as inline pumps. They are not designed to be inside of the fluids that they are pumping. Non-submersible pumps are very easy to maintain and access. Additionally, the motor does not have to be sealed completely. Non-submersible pumps are often used for circulating warm water to the home. These particular pumps are known as circular pumps. They are not only low maintenance, but they are also energy-efficient. Aside from these, there are also jet pumps. Jet pumps deliver water and water pressure by circulating water in a loop system.

What Is A Pressure Tank?

A pressure tank is a type of tank in which a gas or liquid is stored at a pressure that is greater than the atmosphere pressure. The purpose of a pressure tank is to stabilize the water pressure. If your house receives well water, then you most likely have a pressure tank near it. There are two chambers inside of a pressure tank. One of the chambers contains compressed air and the other contains water.

The compressed air inside of the pressure tank will bear down on the water. When a faucet is turned on inside of your home, the water inside of the tank will be forced out of the tank into the plumbing via pressure. The tank has a pressure switch connected to it. The pump will turn on when the pressure switch detects that there has been a drop in pressure and more water is needed. If this occurs, then the pump activates, and the pressure tank is refilled. The pump will be turned off after the tank has refilled.
