Challenges of Maintaining A Toilet

Of all the items in a home that are used on a daily basis, none are arguably more important that the toilet. However, there are many situations that can arise which can leave the toilet unable to be used.

Winchester, VA Toilet-Maintenance-ServicesNeedless to say, this presents a tremendous level of inconvenience for those needing its services. While toilets may be challenging to maintain, it is not an impossible task.

If you find yourself needing to know how to overcome the challenges associated with using and maintaining a toilet, check out the tips below.

Hard Water Deposits

One of the most challenging aspects of maintaining a toilet involves hard water deposits. Found especially in toilets manufactured before 1994, hard water deposits accumulate in the syphon jet hole or in the swirl holes located around the rim of the bowl.

If left untreated, they will eventually block all the holes and make the toilet very difficult if not impossible to flush.

Many people make the mistake of trying to clear these holes with sticks or other items, which often lead to additional problems and a call to a plumber. To make sure hard water deposits are removed in a efficient manner, most plumbers use a muriatic acid wash to rid the toilet bowl of these deposits.

Properly Working Flapper

In many toilets, the biggest problem is often a flapper that is not working properly. When this happens, the toilet constantly runs and wastes tremendous amounts of water on a daily basis. To make sure this doesn’t happen in your Winchester home bathroom, it’s a good idea to take the lid off the toilet’s tank so you can look and listen.

If you hear a sound like water running or observe the flapper is not completely sealing, you need to contact a plumber to have the problem corrected as soon as possible. Otherwise, you’ll be paying higher water bills each and every month until the problem is fixed.

Slow Flushing

Many Winchester homes, especially older ones, have toilets which are very sluggish when flushing. In most cases, the problem is a clog located within the toilet’s sewer line. If the clog is not easily removed, you’ll need the services of a plumber to get the problem fixed.

Otherwise, when you try to flush the toilet, water will back up in the bowl and overflow onto the bathroom floor, creating a disgusting mess that nobody wants to clean up.
